I use my own sensibilities to make movies: Kukunoor
Nagesh Kukunoor has always been called an offbeat director.Does the tag pose obstruction in doing good business?
These labels are absolutely irrelevant to me as long as the audience comes to watch my movies. I use my own sensibilities to make movies, doesn't matter what tag they give me. My sole aim is to connect to the audience and I guess this movie will be able to do that.
Is there any particular reason why you chose Rajasthan as the backdrop?
I am a regular visitor to Rajasthan.

The place has a mysterious charm that attracts me. And when you think of desert, you cannot think of anything else but Rajasthan.
The music of your movies has always created a buzz. Will the same hold true for Dhanak?
This time, it was an amazing opportunity for me to explore the Manganiyar folk music of Rajasthan. We have featured the local singers in each of the songs. You will find great influences of core folk tunes in the scores of this movie. Tapas (Relia) has done a wonderful job in casting the real Manganiyar singers in the movie. The music of Dhanak is unique, to say the least.

A lot of Bollywood movies are being shot here in Kolkata. Given an opportunity to shoot here, how would you like to visualise the City of Joy in your movies?
I would first like to do a thorough research on Kolkata.
You know what I am saying, right? It is very foolish to assume that when you are visiting a city , you know the city. It cannot be like that. If I wish to shoot a film here, I will actually come here, spend some good time in the city and would indulge in its culture. I would also like to interact with the local people.
Which part of this city is your favourite?
I think the older part of Kolkata. Most filmmakers are so interested in it. The northern part of the city , according to me, has been retaining the city's cultural flavour very well. As a visual element, this part of the city is a treat for the eyes. There are a number of pockets in the central part of city as well which are visually very rich.
My personal pick would, any day , be the Bow Barracks.
